Courses usually have a scope of 5 ECTS and are organized as face-to-face or hybrid lectures. The respective learning objectives and course contents can be found in the appendix of the information sheet, which is available for download. Some modules include a wide and changing range of courses ("Issues in..."). You will also find detailed information on this in the appendix of the information sheet. The modules listed represent a basic offer. Due to resheduling, the actual range of modules may vary. You can view the current course offerings in StudIP about 2 months before the start of the semester.

In addition to the modules listed, courses that are taught in German are also available and listed in StudIP. German language skills are required for successful completion. The language level may vary from module to module. Please contact the responsible lecturer for more information.

Learning Agreement

The Examination Office for Business and Economics is the central point of contact for all examination matters, including the review of the Learning Agreement. Please familiarize yourself with the function of the Online Learning Agreement and note that the Learning Agreement can also be adjusted during the guest semester, e. g. if the range of modules differ. Always consult your university.

Central university resources

StudIP

The StudIP platform plays a central role in the field of business and economics. It is a learning management system for course organization, communication and online collaboration. It allows lecturers to share materials and schedule classes, while students can access resources. Some courses have a limited number of participants and registration is only possible with reservations and within a certain period of time.

To avoid unwanted complications, it is advisable to plan your timetable and to register for the relevant courses in StudIP well in advance. You will receive your access data shortly before the start of the semester.

Studmail

Incoming students receive a student e-mail address from the university for communication with lecturers and fellow students. Due to data security reasons, the student e-mail address must always be used when contacting official university offices. Central information e-mails, some of which are relevant to exams, are also sent to this e-mail address. To ensure that you do not miss important information, we recommend that you either set up a forwarding to your personal e-mail address or integrate your student account into your e-mail program. You can find instructions on how to set up your account here (German language only). Otherwise you can access the mail service through your browser.

Semester schedule

The winter semester runs from 01. October to 31. March and the summer semester from 01. April to 30. September, with breaks for Christmas/New Year’s Eve and public holidays. The lecture period usually starts in the second week of the semester and lasts 15 weeks. This is followed by the lecture-free period, during which examinations are written.

Examinations

Two examination dates are offered per module in two phases: in the first 2-3 weeks and the last 2-3 weeks of the lecture-free period. Students can choose on which date they want to take the exam. If the exam is not passed on the first date, students may retake it on the second date. After the second date, a new attempt is only possible in the semester in which the course is offered again (usually every year). For some modules, the assessment consists of an alternative examination, such as a term paper or project work, some of which must be completed during the lecture period.

Application

Exchange students apply to MLU Halle-Wittenberg through an online portal. As soon as the International Office receives an official nomination from the partner university, you will be sent an email with a link to the online portal.

Free movers

Students from abroad who are organizing their stay at MLU on their own are also welcome. You need to find a faculty member at the school of business and economics who is willing to be your supervisor for the duration of your stay. This person will sign the confirmation of supervision, which must be submitted to the International Office before you apply via the online portal. We are happy to assist you with this process. Please contact us by e-mail.

However, a language level of at least B2 in English is recommended. If you plan to take courses in German as well, you should have at least a B2 level of German.
